FOR THE CONFERENCE THERE ARE THREE DISCINCT SUBMISSION FORMATS, AND THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THOSE FORMATS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • A FULL SCIENTIFIC PAPER to be published in the conference proceedings at Aalborg University Press. The full paper should contain theoretical/ empirical research. (A selected number of full papers will be invited to be submitted to a special issue in the Journal of Problem-based Learning in Higher Education.). Submissions in this category should
    • be no longer than 6.000 words including tables, figures and references and an abstract of not more than 250 words
    • provide informations on the following points:
      • An identification of research questions/ problems, goals and hypothesis/ assumptions
      • A description of the underlying PBL philosophy/pedagogy and the concrete PBL practice that is being researched
      • A discussion of state-of-art and motivation for the study
      • A critique/ discussion of relevant theoretical and empirical frameworks that underpin the study
      • A description of research methodology, namely methods and instruments, data collection and analysis. For review/ conceptual paper, there must be a description of the how the literature review is carried out and consistently analyzed.
      • A clear presentation of results.
      • A discussion and/ or conclusions sections should contain a critical reflection on the study
      • References in APA-style
  • An EXTENDED SCIENTIFIC ABSTRACT to be published in the online conference proceedings. The scientific abstract should contain theoretical/empirical research. Submissions in this category should
      • Be no longer than 1.500 including tables, figures and references and an abstract of not more than 250 words.
      • provide informations on the following points:
        • An identification of research questions/ problems, goals and hypothesis/ assumptions
        • A description of the underlying PBL philosophy/pedagogy and the concrete PBL practice that is being researched
        • A brief discussion of state-of-art and motivation for the study
        • A brief critique/ discussion of relevant theoretical and empirical frameworks that underpin the study
        • A description of research methodology, namely methods and instruments, data collection and analysis. For review/ conceptual paper, there must be a description of the how the literature review is carried out and consistently analyzed.
        • A clear presentation of results.
        • A discussion and/ or conclusions sections should contain a critical reflection on the study
        • References in APA-style
  • An Extended PRACTICE-BASED ABSTRACT to be published in the online conference proceedings. The practice-based abstract should contain a description, demonstration or reflection of PBL practices, a PBL variation or implementation or similar. Submissions in this category should
    • Be no longer than 1.500 including tables, figures and references and an abstract of not more than 250 words.
    • provide informations on the following points:
      • a brief presentation of motivations, drivers/triggers for implementing this specific PBL practice
      • a description of the PBL model developed and the theoretical/ pedagogical framework(s) that underpinning it
      • a description of the concrete context in which the PBL practice was implemented (such as place, duration, number of students and teachers involved and the condtions, affordances and constraints of the implementation etc.)
      • a description of how the PBL practice was implemented and evaluated (such as how many sessions, periods of online-work, length of group discussion, number of classroom sessions etc.)
      • a reflection of the implemented PBL practice in terms of its challenges, lessons learned in retrospect to its intended outcomes before the implementation and future perspectives how it can be useful for the wider community of PBL researchers and practitioners.
